EPICS Keep Your Cool Parent Education Program
Extensive Prevention Intervention Counseling Services (EPICS) is a professional counseling practice that supports and promotes personal goal attainment through a holistic approach to treatment. EPICS has been providing counseling, court ordered courses (anger management, substance abuse, victim impact panel, defensive driving, petty larceny, and domestic violence), trainings, seminars, and consultation services for individuals, groups, couples and families for over 25 years. Our goal is to help every person build positive, long-lasting change within their lives.
In addition to our other court ordered courses, EPICS has recently added a 2 hour COPE (Co-Parent Education) court approved course for parents seeking to modify a prior divorce order involving issues of child custody or visitation, legal separation, divorce, and individuals seeking adoption or to foster children. A 10 hour & 16 week course is offered for individuals requiring additional classes. Our program is unique because it addresses culturally specific parenting challenges of African American parents. Using the Mindfulness parenting and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach, our goal is to help parents pay closer attention to their children and be more aware of their own emotions. Encourage them to listen with full intention. Accept themselves and their child without judgement. Our program uses group discussion, role-plays, videos, vignette, group exercises, dialogue and assignments to help our parents increase positive parenting practices.
