PROGRAM DETAILS
Keeping Your Cool (KYC) is an evidenced-based program. KYC includes a host of interactive activities with African American centered themes that are relevant to all ethnicities. Along with our lessons and activities we introduce positive affirmations and emphasize the importance of being a positive role model in the community.
Session Schedule
Program sessions are offered weekly. The program includes curriculum sessions, an orientation, a 1:1 session with the parent/guardian, a 1:1 with the youth, a parent/guardian & youth exit interview and additional sessions, upon request.
Anger is more than an emotion. It’s a common response and reaction triggered by life stressors, conflicts, abuse, low self-worth, substance abuse, poverty, trauma and many other adversarial situations.
Keeping Your Cool is designed to help youth develop coping skills that support resilience and response to adversity.
Anger Must be Managed
We believe that when anger is not properly managed, it can detrimentally affect every area of the youth’s life as well as negatively affect their community, family, and friends.
Youth will discuss the importance of positive attributes like:
Patience and Positive Thinking
Assertiveness
Non-violence
Thoughtfulness (Being considerate of others)
Honesty
Empathy
Resiliency, and many other attributes that define good character.
