“Keeping Your Cool: A 16-Week EPICS Anger Management Curriculum” is designed to help inner-city youth explore and understand the relationship between race, culture, and anger. EPICS (Extensive Prevention Intervention Counseling Services, LLC) believes that through early intervention and treatment, youth with emotional and behavioral needs can live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
When anger is not properly managed, it can detrimentally affect every area of the youth’s life as well as negatively affect their community, family, and friends. Understanding culturally-specific challenges of this population of youth are critical to the development of their ability to manage anger effectively, increase their positive self-image, and reduce maladaptive social behaviors. With the “Keeping Your Cool” curriculum, leaders and facilitators will guide youth through interactive lessons and activities that reveal how traditions, cultural contributions, personal perspectives and thoughts of self and others can positively affect their mental health and those around them.
This curriculum incorporates discussions of relevant cultural experiences, as they relate to racism, poverty, trauma and community violence, and how they impact the lives and mental health of inner-city urban youth.
